capote?

hello,
how "capote" is pronounced? while I was watching the oscar awards I heard something like /kıbodi/. but isn't the film about the life of Truman Capote?
so why is it pronounced as if it is the raincoat?

I haven't heard of him before, but I assume his surname is pronounced as Cap-ote, with the ote section rhyming with note.

So the word 'capote' has two different pronunciations. If it is the surname, it finishes with an /i/ sound. if it is the cloak, then it finishes with a /t/ sound. (http://www.answers.com/topic/capote?method=6)

The coat word comes from French, I believe, so the language are different.

Indeed, capote comes from French but is not exactly the case for family names. The Capote genealogy comes from Italy, especifically from Tuscany, and so, the right way to pronounce the family name is in the Italian way, closely sounds like "kaepoteh"
