how to pronounce "this year" and "these years", etc.
Dear Teachers,
How do you say the word "year(s)" with "this" or "these" or "those" before it? I heard some people say like "this shear"... but can we say " this sear" instead?
Thank you for your help.

"This" is pronounced with short [i]
"These" is pronounced with long i [i:]
A dictionary can be of help if you know the phonetic alphabet
"this sear"- you mean the first word is pronounced with an "sh" at the end :thish year; well, I`ve heard this kind of pronunciation but I wouldn`t use it because it sounds odd and, most important of all, it is not correct.
I hope it helps you.
All the best,

Hi,
I have heard it very often on the radio. I can't be very sure but some of people who said so were well educated, not just rappers or footballers.
It might be some regional accent.

Thank you :>
For me, it's a bit hard to say "thish year", so fortunately we don't have to pronounce like this.
