Is it true that a proper noun (name) can be pronounced any way? By 'any way' I mean two people with the exact same spelling may choose to pronounce the name differently. If so, then there is no ONE 'right' way to say it, right?

hi, I think that these proper nouns have ONE single pronunciation. If two people pronounce the same name differently than one is wrong. madox

Maybe so, but it happens all the time. For example, "Andrea" can be pronounced "ANN-dree-ah" or "ON-dree-ah" or "on-DRAY-ah", depending upon the person.

"Elisabetha" is not a name I've ever heard, but I'd guess the fourth syllable is long.

Is not Elisabetha a name? What is it then? How is pronounced the first letter: "e" or "i"?

Beside, if you require further help with pronounciation & the dictionary can't help you then ask around here. I highly doubted, if you'd be disappointed ;) |
