Hello everyone,

When my daughter was small I asked one of her friends if she knew what a bouquet was. We were watching Hyacinth Bucket on TV at the time. She said, "It's where my dad goes to put a bet on the horses."

In the above quote there must be something funny about the way the child understood the word "bouquet" but I didn't understand the pun. Would you please explain it to me? Thank you in advance.

Bouquet is pronounced 'bookay' In the UK people who take bets on horse races or other sports are caleed 'Bookmakers' which is shortened to 'Bookies' which sounds like 'Bookay'
Her dad probably said I'm going to the Bookie -i.e the man who takes the bets, but the child would be ignorant of the floral term...
