Where should the stress be put in the word 'wal-mat'?

On the first syllable. (In the UK, the same company trades as 'ASDA' - and the stress is on the first syllable of that too.)

Actually, ASDA is a subsidiary of Wal-Mart, which is a fine, but important, distinction.
