Why we pronounce the es in advantages as /iz/ and sides as /s/?

The single noun advantage ends in a voiced affricate, <g>, so it takes [iz]. The singular noun side ends in a voiced stop <d>, so it takes voiced [z]--not voiceless [s].

advantag[iz]
sides = [sajdz]
