| I'm having a problem pronouncing 'comfortable' correctly. Everytime I do, my American friend tells me I'm wrong. Can anyone here divide it into syllables that are easy to catch? |

| Maybe that's the way in some parts of the world. But in Br E it's often reduced to three syllables: /'kʌmftəbəl/. The second syllable is a schwa. I've followed the standard EFL transcription of a schwa in the last syllable too, although I think the [l] is syllabic (as does Shmi). b |
