Default Leticia

Hi,

How do you read this female given name, " Leticia". The pronunciation from the Merriam Webster is Leticia - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary (M.W. shows it is a geographical name).

But when I heard this name in movie, it seems they say:[' ]
I just heard like this using my ears, but I am not sure, I can not find this given name in the dictionaries. I offer you a MP3 copy, I hope you could take a "hearing" for me.

Thanks for your help.

I am learning American English.

You heard right - though your transcription suggests a shorter stressed vowel than the one I hear.

I have a feeling that the Br Eng pron. used to be different. At my sister's school (fifty years ago) there was a nun who insisted on being called /'sɪstə le'tɪtsɪə/, much to the mirth of the girls. But today the Br Eng pron. is pretty much the same as in the clip, except that the stressed vowel is /ɪ/ rather than /i:/

Hi, Ouisch,

I was wondering if you could offer me a IPA version of "leh-TISH-ah."
I do not know how to read when I see the pronunciation marked like this.
Thank you.
