In my book i have a chapter talking about formal rules and i didn't understand the following :

what is the parentheses notation?
what is Braces?
what is superscripts and subscripts?
what is alpha-notation?

(what are the feature changing rules:
Deletion rule?
insertion rule?
Metathesis rule ?

Reduplication rule?


The book is so complicated and i cannot understand something . i have a quiz in this chapter in Thursday so please can any body provides me some notes that explains for me these questions to help me out?
