Default The th sound and a tooth gap....

Good evening.

There is a big problem I have got with the th pronounciation.
I have got a tooth gap among my incisors. It is a huge gap where I can put my tongue through.
Well , when wanting to form a th sound you have to put your tongue between your upper set of teeth and your lower set of teeth.
If you press your teeth onto your tongue too hard normally there is no thhhhhhhhhhh sound.
But with a tooth gap between your incisors there is always a thhhhhhh sound no matter whether you press your teeth too hard onto your tongue or not

But I want to learn the real th-sound. A possible solution would be braces. But they are too expensive :(
Are there any advices you could give me to learn the real th sound?

greetings

Please click this URL link of youtube. You will clearly see and listen to how a teacher of native speaker pronounces 'th'.

YouTube - Real ESL Video Lesson #7 - Pronounce TH

By the way, The consonant - th has different pronunications in 'mouth' and 'though'.

When my sister was little, her two front teeth wouldn't grow out so she had a gap problem as well. It took her a while, but she found that if she brought her tongue to any of teeth on the top of her mouth next to where her two front teeth should be that she could still make a 'th' sound, but it sounded a little weird until she practiced saying it a lot.

Best of luck to you!

This sounds good to me. When I saw the original post, I thought of writing 'Try making the closure on a different tooth'. But I tried it myself and decided it wouldn't work. But if your sister managed ...
