That works, but what was the question? | hanky, thank you very much! You did a good job! (It seems the website you recommended can not be opened in China. But I can open it with my proxy server! It does work, thanks!)
You said you have seen this first name (Lawren), right? Then do you know how to pronounce it? Is it /lɒrən/, or /lɒren/? |

In the file you upload, Lawren was pronounced as /Lor-en/ (as Charlie said). If this name is an English name then this is the right way you pronounce it.

Well, I am sure it is "Lawren", not "Lauren" or "Loren", and these two names you suggested I can find them in the dictionay, which are both pronounced as /lɒrən/.
I saw "Lawren" at my TOEFL listening script, the full name is Lawren Harris, who is a Canadian painter.( Lawren Harris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )
But I can not find the pronunciation for this name anywhere. I just heard "Lawren" which is pronounced like /lɒrən/, and also like /lɒren/. I am not sure which one is correct. Okay, I will upload a MP3 file, you can take a "listening".
I guess I will go for /lɒrən/.
This is the part of the full script: A.Y.Jackson was influential for his ananlysis of light and shadow. Arthur Lismer's work has an intensity all its own - particularly his painting of the "Canadian Jungle," the violently colored forest in the fall. Lawren Harris went further than the rest in simplifying the forms of nature into sculptural shapes, organizing an entire scene into a single, unified image, and eventually into abstraction. | Dear IMPSX-UE:
Thanks for introducing me to a new spelling of a fairly common name.
I think I would go with '/lɒren/'.
'Lawren' seems to be a variation of 'Lawrence' or 'Laurence'. Other variations are:
Loren (a man's name)
Lauren (could be either, but often a woman's name)
Laurent (the French version; a man's name)
Lorenzo (Italian)
Laurentius (Latin)
Perhaps others know of more...
Best wishes,
Petra |

pyoung, , you are right! "Lawren" IS a variation of "Lawrence", whose origin is derived from Latin. http://nameberry.com/name/boy/Lawrence
And, according to the Longman Dictionary I use, which shows that "Lawrence" is pronounced as /lɒrəns/, it is /ə/, not /e/. Since "Lawren" and "Lawrence" are related, I think I should hold my opinion /lɒrən/. They should be pronounced in the same way! |

hanky, thanks for looking at my question again!
Well, there's always some kind of websites we are not able to visit in China. Political factors. But we do not worry about it. Whatever they try to block, we still can visit via proxy server. |
