Default seek British advice

Hi British English speakers,

From some dictionary of pronounciation, the 'a' sound in Alan, calendar, Daniel, etc, should be pronounced the same as 'a' in man, cat, pat, fat, etc.

But in reality, a lot of British people will pronounce 'a' in Alan, calendar, Daniel, etc in the same way as 'a' in ask, task, etc. Is it true?

Tks
pete

Are you sure?

Let's make sure we're thinking the same pronunications:

'a' as in 'and' , 'man'

but 'task' can be pronounced with the 'a' as above, as in the American 'asshole', or, shall I say, as in the British, "Arsenal"

I've not heard Ahrlen, cahrlendar, or Dahrniel.

Sorry, I'm not British. Here I just give suggestion.
How about using the sound (video) when you send the thread. It is easier to hear and to distinguish.Thanks.
