hello,

thanks a lot.

It's really be very hard to clarify such sort of doubt by writing.

Some times I think I'm pronouncing correctly and some times I don't.

I don't understand those little symbols. I can't read them. I'm really sorry:

[tʌtʃ]
According to one of the many answers I got, "touch" and "love" would have the same vowel sound:

Quote:
touch [tʌtʃ] - up [ʌp] - cut [kʌt] - love [lʌv] - but [bʌt]
How can "touch" and "love" have the same vowel sound? I don't understand.

I don't think Canadians and Americans pronounce the vowels in those words (touch/love) the same way.

As to "touch", "up", "cut", "but" and "much", I pronounce their vowels like the "a" sound of "eye". Am I wrong?

One last question, please: do you agree with Barb_D (touch/much)?

Thanks

Yes, the inverted v is the vowel sound in both touch and much. The spelling of touch recalls its French origins, but it is pronounced the same as much, in 99% of geolects. PS. You can trust Barb.

How can you ask such a question?-) They just do; the issue calls not for understanding, but for belief!
