My doubt is the following: a long time ago I was taught that "touch" should be pronounced with an "open" and short "a", more or less like the "a" in "
about". Since the word "touch" became more worldwide known, because of things like the Apple's I-Touch, I've been noticing a larger number of
non native-speakers incorrectly pronouncing it. Then, I just would like to confirm what is the right way. The problem is that trying to establish the sound of a vowel based on other words is simply tricky. As you said, if I learned to speak the "reference" word wrongly, it's no use to use it as a reference. The reference word "about", particularly, seems to have very little chance of being pronounced differently around the world, I think.
What's your opinion, please?
