Default I need your advice with the best suitable book!

Hello everyone..

I need a book about teaching English as a second language and I need the best one which contains the following:

1) A review of the methods of teaching English as a second or foreign language including the traditional ones and concentrating on the communicative teaching method.

2) Suggestions for activities to be held in the classroom.

3) Classroom management techniques.

3) Covering the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing)

As you might have noticed in my profile that I'm from saudi arabia where there is few bookstores that offer such book and when I search in the Internet I find a lot of books but unfortunately don't know what's inside them :( (I really need your help)

So If there is a book that covers all these issues then it's the one I'm looking for.

(BTW I'm teaching for the first time)

Hi Bright One,

I too am looking for good books. The only ones that I found out were "The Practice of English Language Teaching" By Jeremy Harmer. This book I've already read and it's a very good one.

Another my friend who's an English teacher recommended is "Learning Teaching" By Jim Scrivener. This one I've gotta get hold of, may be I'll try to check out Jarir.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I should consider these books and search more about them.

I found a book which is Techniques and Principles in Language Teaching by Diane Larsen Freeman. It's a very good book in which it discusses the most famous methods of teaching and gives examples of activities that every method suggests. I haven't read it yet but It'll be at the top of my considerations.

Regards.

Where did you find this book? In Jarir? or some other place. Please let know, because I too want to buy it, and it's real urgent.

Thank you very much.

I didn't buy it until now, but I'm sure it's at Al Sa'awi Bookstore and not sure about Jarir. I think Jarir has a big chance of having it though. If you have their number call and ask them.

Yes, this is a good book for an overview of methods. It gives examples of techniques that the different methods use, which you can apply to your teaching.
Another one is:
Richards, J and Rodgers, T, Approaches and Methods in Language Teaching 2nd ed. Cambridge Uni Press. 2001.
This one deals with all the methods and has a chapter about post-methods teaching.

Thanks for the information

Which one of the two books would you recommend for me, as a novice teacher, and which one you consider better and more practical?

It's in Riyadh. As I said I'm sure it's there but this doesn't mean Jarir doesn't have it :)
