There are sites like Reviews of TEFL, TESL, TESOL, CELTA and other ESL/EFL Teacher Training Courses. Online, Weekend & Long Term Courses Reviewed. but I haven't been convincedband haven't seen one that looked objective or rigorous.

Hi guys, CELTA and Cert TESOL from the UK are widely available in the USA. However TESOL which operates more widely in the USA offers the same frame work and collaborates with Oxford and Cambridge. See their courses at www.tesol.org Online courses are not that great but the above names are the best in the business! The key to a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA is that it is 120hours with at least 6 hours observed teaching of qualified teachers and a min. of 6 hours assessed teaching Dave

If you want to teach EFL in China, you do not need anything other than a college degree, in anything, real or fake, and be a native speaker, but, exceptions to the native speaker requirement are rampant. If you want the lowdown see: http://chinaholisticenglish.com http://middlekingdomlife.com Last edited by MW; 04-Sep-2009 at 02:25. Reason: post premature

Hi Thanks for the info. We get applications from US teachers, but they rarely have a qualification which I can evaluate. Usually a college certificate certified by the college issueing the certificate. Not that this means the college or certificate are of no value, but without any background on the standing of the college which issued the certificate it is difficult to know how credible the qualification is. Knowing that TESOL etc are also widely available in the US means that we can also expect US teachers to offer the same qulaifications as UK counterparts. Cheers and thanks again.
