authentic vs non-authentic materials

I voted for both because while non-authentic materials are great for teaching the nitty-gritty (the specific or practical details) of the English language, authentic materials are a good way for students to experience things that are beyond their current level, thereby increasing the amount they learn.

Once authentic texts are taken from their natural context, transferred to another, manipulated and handled them in ways to fit a purpose they weren't created for, which is what happens in many cases, a degree of artificiality is introduced to them too. That doesn't mean I think there's anything wrong with using authentic texts, quite the opposite, but I think the authentic/non-authentic divide is not so clear-cut.

i voted to using authentic material. i deeply beleive that the teacher should increase the Ss motivation to learning by using authentic material thus it can arouse their interest.
