authentic vs non-authentic materials

Hello,

What do you prefer authentic or non-authentic materials (in the classroom)?

*authentic materials = real-life...not designed for pedagogic purposes e.g. newspapers, magazines, TV programs, movies, literature...etc.

*non-authentic materials = designed for pedagogic purposes e.g. course books...

I used to use only authentic material.
And still prefer it. But there is a place
for non-authentic to help our students.

well, authentic materials increase the classroom motivation of learners indeed,but coursebooks help teacher to guide them on the right way you know:)both should be used..

I would say non-authentic (lol only one who voted that : P). Textbooks are tailored to teach English. Allowing students to watch a supplementary "authentic" TV show may help, but the textbook approach is the best way to learn PROPER English.

I voted for both and mostly belive in non-authentic ones because they're designed espesifically to teach English and should be used to do so. However, of course, they're not complete and the only sources for teaching English. There we should get help from authentic materials to enhance the effect of course books. So I think none of them should be used without the other.
