What are their ages and levels?
I think you asked this earlier and when I went to reply, the topic had been closed. I'm not sure but I think it's because it might have been better placed here:
Teaching English - UsingEnglish.com ESL Forum
That's the section of the forum specifically for teachers to talk to other teachers and get help and advice.
NOT A TEACHER
(1) Some teachers say that the "secret" to good control is how you begin and
end the class.
(2) As the students enter the room, you should have a short lesson on the
chalk- , whiteboard for them to start working on (or you could make paper
copies). They will soon become accustomed to coming in and working on the
mini-lesson. (Then you will have time -- and quiet -- to take the roll.)
(3) Some teachers end the class period with a quiz. This keeps the students on
their toes and provides a formal ending.
P.S. Of course, the best thing for control, many teachers say, is to provide
interesting and meaningful lessons. If they see that you really love (and know)
your subject, they will behave accordingly.
