One way that is useful is to bring newspaper clippings into class. Pass them out to students. Have one student come to the board and write down words they don't know from the article. Then read them the article out loud and ask them to listen. Define words they don't know on the board. Write down simple questions they can ask each other. Then have them get into pairs and ask and answer questions about what they heard you read out loud.

After they finish, give each one a copy of the article. Ask them to read it more carefully and make a few questions about it to ask another partner. Then ask them to get into pairs again and ask each other questions about the article.

Then after they finish, ask the group to compare the two experiences. Usually they have a much easier time speaking after they have read the article first, not only after hearing the teacher read it out loud to them. The first exercise helps them listen better while the second lets them become aware of the mistakes they made the first time, from listening.
It is a very compelling exercise and helps students learn about their own difficulties.

Thanks. I'll try it with no doubt! but I suppose that newspaper articles may not be beneficial to those with the conversational purpose, what do you think about doing such a task with some original listening and making use of scripts instead of the clips?
