am a teacher in asecondary school. I face difficulty in teaching English. unfortunately, the students hate something called English because of their previous teacher. She used to give them papers including questions about the content of their curriculm to memorize. They never practised reading in reading lessons or listening in Listening lessons, that's why they do not know how to read or to understand the grammar or any thing else. I feel that they are died in English class. Am trying to find ways to teach them English especially reading, ways to creat fun . I want them to enjoy but at the same time to learn. I want from you to find activities that help me teach reading. Am really in need to your help

The first thing you have to do is to win the class over and get them away from thinking so negatively, which is based on their past experiences. Which book do you use with them, what's the aim of the course, what sort of reading are they expected to be capable of?

Hello I have done what you exactly suggested and the students are getting better, but, it's not easy any way.You asked about the name of the book , well, there is not specific book. the ministry of education published abook which is a variety of all reading , listening,.... somehow I could master listening and Grammar ,but , I could not with reading because simply they do not know how to read and am not going to teach them basic things. The midterm exams are very soon and am running short of the time. I have finished only two units out of six. The term is about to end?????????? Thanks in advance

I think the first thig you have to do is deal with the problem of the exam. Is the teacher still working in the school? If so, this might make it more complex, but I would take samples of the work she handed out that was unsuitable to yor line manage and say that the class is behind and ask for a different test. If you have inherited a serious problem, then you shouldn't be the one to suffer for it.
