One-to-one teaching

Hi there,

I am about to start my first one-to-one teaching job, with an intermediate level adult, and am struggling to find any useful advice or resources for such teaching. There is planty of information on teaching groups of teenagers and youngsters but very little on teaching one-to-one such as good exercises, materials and just simple advice. Can anyone help?

What is their area of interest- there's plenty of specialised stuff for all sorts of level out there.

Not sure about interests but they are especially keen to improve their speaking/listening as this will help them most with the job that they do. Where is this s'stuff' as most of the stuff I find is all for groups of teenagers and not really appropriate?

One Stop English, from the publishers Macmillan, also has quite a lot of stuff.

I think one of the best things for you to do is to build rapport with your student first so you will know what are his interests. From there you can
start thinking about the teaching methods and approaches suitable for your student.
