Do you have access to international news channels? If so, you could give them a text from a newspaper as a source of written information and then let them watch a discussion on the same topic and show how people actually discuss and argue about issues.

Thanks for a good idea, Tdol! I will definitely use it at my "Newspaper lessons". But where can I get good examples of everyday speech typical of well-educated British people? I understand that nobody records their speech for further publication. So my question actually is: which materials reflect natural everyday speech better than others? Fiction? Popular magazines? Anything else I haven't mentioned?
I selected modern fiction as I am finding that my students struggle with putting what they know into complete sentences. The minute they have to speak or write in English all there knowledge of grammer flies out of the window. I teach at both the elementary and middle school level here in Korea and I find that I am struggling to find material that is relevant to the middle school level. Does anyone have any suggestions?
