Hi...

I have difficulty in solving participle questions.

Q: I left a cigarette (1)burning / (2) burned in the storeroom.

It depends on what you mean. If you want to say you left a cigarette which was already burnt and there is no need to worry: "I left a cigarette burnt in the storeroom" is correct. And if you want to say you left a cigarette which is still burning and you should worry because it can start a fire: "I left a cigarette in the storeroom burning" is correct.

Say:

I left a cigarette burning in the storeroom.

English is the only language that has such a funny word order. It's one of the reasons of its greatness.;-)
