Default Is Online Teaching Where we are going?

There are more and more online English teaching sites cropping up all the time - such as doyouspeak.com - learn to speak English the new way - online with native English speakers.

This site like many others are looking for teachers to teach students they supply you with.

I think it is a double edged sword - it enables students to have interactive lessons (not just speaking but watching videos and undertaking role play) but it also misses the face to face contact which is also important in teaching people how to speak English.

I would like to know if any people have had experience teaching English online through companies such as this one and what they think about it

Perhaps you would be better able to judge if you asked the students. The turnover in questions alone should give you some idea of how this site is rated by students and others all keen to learn more, whether specific or more general.
Then looking at the questions asked you will see the wide range of questions posed and how quickly they are answered.

Of course no site can replace the face to face aspect of learning; but it can do a lot and be a very valuable service.

I certainly hope not. Online teaching is another pathetic attempt to squeeze money out of students while paying the teacher next-to-nothing.

I tried online teaching and I had to email my pix and qualfications to the web site. Then, I logged on and waited for a student to show up. and I waited and waited and waited. Eventually, I stopped using that web site.

I noticed you are teaching in UK. Is there a reason why you are looking to online teaching to supplement your income?

I am no longer doing any teaching and neither am I looking to supplement my income. I can understand your frustration but surely you cannot expect to earn a living by teaching online?
