Talking Help - training advice needed!

Hello

I am hoping someone can help me. I want to teach english as a foreign language but due to commitments I will need to teach in the UK and abroad. I have been told that TEFL certification is only used to teach outside of the UK and TESOL certification only used within the UK - can anyone advise me further on this? I had realy only wanted to learn TEFL as this course is much shorter but I am worried if I get certified with this I won't be able to find employment in the UK.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Jo

I have a TESOL Certificate - works fine in Thailand.
Took my training at TEFL International. Check teir website for schools in Europe and Asia that can get you the TESOL qualification in about 6 weeks. I went to Ban Phe, Thailand for my training - GREAT teachers, a fine program, cost about 1700 USD including room.
Do NOT know what certificates are required for the UK.
Good luck.

If you get an CELTA (RSA Preparatory Certificate) it is accepted throughout Europe, Asia and the UK. English Language Schools in the UK, in fact, prefer this certification to other forms. There's a link here to the Cambridge site:
Cambridge ESOL: Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)

The Trinity College London equivalent certificate is also widely accepted in language schools in UK and abroad. Here's the link for that: Trinity College London
In general, I think that UK employers prefer the Cambridge certificate.
Hope this is useful for you.

TESOL and TEFL are not certification; they are acronyms for types of teaching. I would agree with Clare that the CELTA is the most widely recognised certificate.

I would suggest you Google around a bit about TEFL International before going with them- there has been a lot of controversy about them. I have not had any dealings with them and cannot say for sure what is accurate, but there are many articles along the lines of this one: The TEFL Blacklist: TEFL International
