Teaching speaking to proficient pupils
Dear colleagues,
Hello
My name is Daniela. I am a teacher of English in Bucharest. I teach a class of proficient pupils who do not have to be encouraged to speak in English. The problem is that they finish the speaking tasks fast and we run out of material in no time.
I need your help.
Would you like to send me your suggestions from your experience?
Thank you
Daniela

That's a good problem to have! ;-) I think you need to make the tasks more open-ended - let the students do the talking and don't be afraid to stand back and let them get on with it. Don't feel that being a teacher just means instructing.
My early lessons were a bit of a paper-chase - and when your students are slow on the uptake it's hard not to get sucked into that as a general modus operandi; but if your students are good, it's easier to 'let go'.
Good luck! :-)
