Default teaching vocabulary

Hi, I am still an unexperienced teacher and I don't know how to solve this problem: I help a learner with the English subject after class, and the main problem she finds is how to understand the texts her teacher gives them in class, this is, she has a huge problem with vocabulary. I try to teach her new vocabulary but in the next class she brings a totally different text with totally different vocabulary and the one I taught her doesn't solve anything, what can I do? How can I get she understands the texts?

Thanks a lot.

Explain the problem to the teacher and ask them to choose ONE text.

I do not really think there is any particular way to learn vocabulary other than reading as much as possible and putting new words and expressions into practice so that they all become an active part of someone´s word list
