How we know a word

Hi there,
Suppose your student told you his/her (correct) choice of a word was based on a decision that it just "sounded right". Would you confirm for the student that this is a valid reason to use the word, or would you ask for a more logical explanation?
Any suggestion??

Ah, but is it right? That's the real question.

If the word is right, then what does it matter if the student's decision is based on audio recall?

If the word isn't right, then I'd show the student the right word and explain why it is right.
