Consider the scene of the three witches and discuss the role of time and place.
In the scene of the three witches there is an empty stage because Shakespeare wants to remove time and place as well as historical truth and any logical common sense from his work; in this way the supernatural characters of the witches become more believable or, at least, more drammatically acceptable.
It is also important to note that the world presented in the scene is one of thunder and lightning and that this atmospheric, climatic conditions mirror the chaos brought about by an act against nature like the regicide.
The theme of time is particularly stressed in the scene of the three witches; the first word is connected with time and introduces a question about the future. The answer is expressed in terms of place; this confusion of time and place is only the first of the long series of reversals that dominate the play.
