preposition "on" "in" "at" for the road

i always got confused when it comes to the usage of "on" "in" "at" for the roads/street...

are speedy cars on or in /at the road ?... a boutique store on/at the street?? people walking on/in the street.. apartment #234 on or in Collingwood Steet.

For things actually on the road or street (people, cars) - we usually use ON, but we can use IN for city streets.
For things beside the road (houses, park, etc.) - it's safest to use ON - you may hear that British people sometimes say IN, but this is for city streets and only in some areas.
For an address (57 Waterloo Road) - we always use AT.
AT is also used for 'AT the side of' / ' AT the end of' the road.

Could you elaborate how in can be used? Fixed structures like speed bumps are in the road but I sense that you are talking about different things?
