If you remember something, the memory is something which is already in your brain and you think about it.

If you remind someone else of something, you are helping them to find a memory which is already held in their brain and make them think about it.

I remember my holiday in Spain = I went on holiday to Spain, I have a memory of it and I am thinking about that memory.

I reminded him of his holiday in Spain = He went on holiday to Spain, he has a memory of it and I helped him to think about that memory.

I'd never noticed before that "¿Podrías recordarnos?" could be used to mean both of those sentences in Spanish, ie. 'recordar' means both 'remember' and 'remind'. That must be confusing.
