A: Why did you buy that shirt?

B: I needed to wear bow tie for the ceremony yesterday. I bought that shirt because its collar was made for wearing a bow tie.

Any more natural way to express B's meaning above? Thanks!

If you do, then "I bought that shirt because it has a wing collar."

Thanks!

I needed to wear bow tie for the ceremony yesterday. <--- Should I use "needed" or "need"?

If you do, then "I bought that shirt because it has a wing collar."

Do you think the present tense "need" fits with the word "yesterday"?
