Lessening the impact was a result of putting on the brakes. Is that what you are asking?

The driver saw Jeff in time to put on his brakes. As a result of braking, the impact was lessened.

No, I mean the relationship between "saw" and "put on", which is the cause and result?

Seeing Jeff was the cause of the driver putting his brakes on.
Putting the brakes on was the cause of the impact being lessened.

Overall, seeing Jeff in time was the cause of the impact being lessened.

The impact being lessened was the result of the brakes being put on which was the result of the driver seeing Jeff in time.

Do you think somehow that applying an automobile's brakes helps people see better?
