us vs our having been invited

"....having been invited to take part in the conference was quite unexpected".

I guess both "Our" and "Us" would be equally acceptable for an answer in this sentence, wouldn't they?
 
No. "Our" is correct.
 
So I can't use "us" here similar to "He insisted on us going there."="He insited on our going there"?
 
Would the following example be any different from my sentence?

"I could just about shift the blame for her sleeping with Chris onto us having been apart after so long so close together."

Yes. The our/us follows a preposition.
 
Gotcha. "Us" can't be at the beginning of a sentence. Thanks.
