"You're" is simply a contraction of "You are". Some people might tell you not to use "You're" in formal situations and that using it in an exam situation could either get you extra points or cause points to be deducted.

Sorry i think you haven't answered my question, i was asking of the difference between 'your' and 'you are' and not 'you're and 'you are'.

'Your' means 'belonging to you'.

'Put your coat on.'

Many, MANY people write "your" when they should write "you're."

And don't rely on your spellchecker to put it right for you. My stupid spellchecker accepts the following as correct even though every word is spelt wrong:
