Just curious, why is there no English word ending with tf?

Certain combinations of letters are not used. There's no particular reason for not using them; we just don't.

Thanks. A friend of mine asked me to find an English word that ends with tf yesterday and I gave up. Today, I have tried to search in Google and again no result.

An easy way to do it:

1 Go to OneLook Dictionary Search
2 enter *tf as a search- it will search for any letters + tf, so it will give you everything it finds with them at the end of a word. * = any letters ? = any single letter

I can't be bothered to check, but there are probably no English words ending in tb, tc, td, tg, tj, tk, tm, tp, tq, tv, tx.

i wonder how many seconds it will be after I post this before the -tq words pour in.
