Is is common to say I am a people person when introducing myself?
Thanks,
It would work in speed dating.
I wouldn't expect to find you at a speed dating event if you weren't a people person!
I think "people person" has passed into the realm of "trite."
What is it you want to mean when you say it?
I really like meeting new people.
I'm an extrovert and get my energy from being around people.
I think I'm a good listener and people feel comfortable sharing things with me.
Etc.
(And I agree you don't just say "Hi, I'm Barb. I'm a Gemini, I'm from New York, and I'm a people person!")
But not piña coladas.

If you said any of those things to me when we were introduced, I'd want to find somebody else to talk to. As two people have said, we don't normally attempt to summarise our personality when we are introduced to somebody, except in speed dating. These are really what I am looking for to express what personality I have!! Much better than saying "I am a people person."Thanks!
