Hi Mad-ox. What a unique job man. This my idiom:

a barking dog never bites

pit3.jpg

Someone who makes threats all the time, seldom carries out the threats.
Source: Bertram, Anne (Bowl of Cherries)

Some barking dogs do bite, you know.

I´d rather say it as : Barking dogs seldom bite

:hi:

be bitten by the bug= have a sudden strong interest in or enthusiasm for something

eg.
My father was never really interested in going abroad until she went to America last year. Now he's been bitten by the bug and hates staying at home.

eg. For years he avoided paying tax. But now his chickens have come home to roost and he's got a tax bill of 30000 pounds

Idioms with cock:

PS: Tristran Shandy by Laurence Stern is a cock and bull story

cock an ear/eye ay something/somebody = look or listen to something/somebody carefully and with a lot of attention

cock an ear to something:

cock a snook at somebody/something= do or say something that shows your lack of respect for something/somebody, especially when you cannot be punished for this

I could eat a horse = be extremely hungry

Get a horse - this is kind of a dated one; said when someone's driving an old wreck of a car.

Useless as teats on a bull = completely useless

actually, "get a horse" is an expression used to urge on a 'slowpoke' or someone walking or travelling at a slow pace.
