What does "at the office" mean in this context?

71' Rose has suffered a difficult day at the office, so will perhaps be relieved to come off for Ngakia.

It's an idiom meaning to have something go wrong, be difficult, or to perform poorly. While it can be and is used literally (i.e. a stressful day at work), it has come to be used somewhat humorously in non-work situations as well.

You'll see it with 'bad', 'tough', 'rough' and other similar adjectives in place of 'difficult'.

You've got to use your imagination to understand metaphors like this, Konto.

Rose is a professional footballer, so playing in a match is doing a day's work for him.

Mind you, being substituted is probably not a relief.

Not only is it an idiom, it's also a bit of a joke.
