What does the expression mean "A fat lot you'll ever save!" ? Please advise.
 
What does the expression mean "A fat lot you'll ever save!" ? Please advise.

Not used in AmE, but as a guess with no context, could understand as "you will save much more (money?) than you will ever save". How about some context.

I was just wondering: Is that expression similar to the American expression "Fat chance that ...." It means that

something is not going to happen.

1. Fat chance you'll ever save. = There is no chance that you will ever save your money. As soon as you get your

salary, you spend it.

2. In October of this year, many Americans were saying "Fat chance that he will ever win the election!" (And he didn't.)

3. And on a more serious note, some people are saying: It's great that both sides have stopped fighting. But fat chance that

the peace will last very long.

The person saying it is basically suggesting that they don't believe that the listener is likely to save very much at all, if anything.
