Hi all,

Does the following sentence sound natural to your native ears? :)

What we have seen suggests a (/the) passing acquaintance, if any, of the author with his subject matter.

Thanks a lot

It works okay with the indefinite article. The definite article is not possible there.

Hi all.

Does the following sentence sound natural to your native ears? [STRIKE]:)[/STRIKE] Don't try to make your own emoticons. If you really need one, click on the :) icon in the toolbar and choose the appropriate one.

What we have seen suggests a (no slash here the?) passing acquaintance, if any, of the author with his subject matter.

Thanks a lot.
