I want to see if I can use "run through veins" to talk about wine or drugs.

Are these good?

1. There was a needle on the table. Heroin had started to run through her veins. She was lost in a fake euphoria.

2. There was an empty glass on the counter. Red wine/whiskey/vodka was running through his veins. He was in another world, for a few hours away from his pains.

Two things. One, wine can certainly be red. But whiskey? Vodka? Two, that's powerful stuff!

Bob: Try the wine.
Larry: It will knock me out.
Bob: Are you kidding me? One glass of wine won't do that.
Larry: It does that to me.
Bob: Don't take sleeping pills with your wine.

(Wine is not a drug, but it contains alcohol, which is.)

I know we don't have red vodka.:)

I don't know if those two sentences I have written are good!

Well, there are more than two sentences. Also, I wouldn't say have written.

As you can tell, I think you should say there is an empty needle (syringe) on the table. Or maybe it's an empty needle with a trace of heroin in it.

Perhaps:

She seemed to be passed out, but a closer examination would reveal that she was barely awake. Heroin was running through her veins, doing its job.

Can I also use it for alcohol?

Vodka was running through her veins, doing its job.
