Can I say the alcohol in someone is talking?

Is this good?

John grabbed her arm. "I want you in my life." Alice slapped him away.
"That's not you John. That's the alcohol in you talking." She walked towards the door. "You never have the courage to tell a girl you love her," she said before leaving.

I'm with Tarheel. It's good.

I tightened it by a few syllables.

Instead of alcohol, you could also make it more specific booze, whiskey, wine, martinis, whatever.

"That's the booze in you." she said, and she left, slamming the door behind her.

Last year, when I wanted to write something, I felt awful! I didn't know how to express myself which was really frustrating. Compared with last year, my writing has gotten considerably better. This forum contributed to that progress.:)

In BrE, "That's the alcohol/booze talking" is the most natural way of saying it. There's definitely no need for "in you".

Or:

That's the booze talking.

As I said in post #7.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all users to read all previous responses before posting their own. It saves time for everyone, avoiding repeating answers that have already been given.

Repetition is not always bad. In fact, repetition reinforces learning.
