At my office, we schedule online meetings (over Skype) where multiple participants join in from different locations to discuss project status. These are usually scheduled for a duration of 30 minutes or an hour. When a participant has provided his update and wants to leave the meeting early (while others will continue the discussion), what is the appropriate way to convey this (without sounding too formal)?

I have heard some people saying "I am dropping (off)" which I feel this is not the correct usage. How would a native speaker say this?

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

They might say "I'm going to drop out now". That's definitely not formal.

I have heard people saying "I am dropping (off)" , this does not sound correct to me. Is this correct usage? How would a native speaker say this?

Please don't post the same question twice. You had two threads open with exactly the same question. I have now merged them.

I usually say something like "I'm going now. Bye, everybody!"

I didn't intend to post it twice. After posting it first time, I couldn't find it in the forum, so tried again. Will take care of this in future.

Your posts are in moderation at the moment. That means they have to be approved and don't appear immediately.

You have to be patient.

In short, say hello and goodbye as you would in any meeting.

I know you said 'without sounding too formal' rajeshr, but maybe you (or anybody else reading this thread) want to sound a bit more formal than some of the above suggestions will make you sound.

If so, you could say 'I hope you'll all excuse me now; I have another appointment in five minutes. Thank you and goodbye.'
