I feel that I have asked this question before, but cannot remember when and where. Could you please tell me how to punctuate this type of sentence? Is any of my attempts OK?

As the saying goes, might is right.
As the saying goes 'Might is right'.
As the saying goes, 'Might is right'.

If I had to guess the correct answer, I would have gone for this:

As the saying goes, might is right. I mean without the quotes.

I don't like any of your attempts, though the last one is the best. This is how I'd do it:

As the saying goes: "Might is right."

A comma just does not do the job properly, in my judgement.

As you see, Mr. Tom, there is no general agreement or single 'correct' answer. My own choice, I think, would be;

Might is right, as the saying goes.

I suppose I should have responded to this sooner. As you have already seen, there is no one, "correct" answer. (You seem to think mine wasn't it.)

Having said that, putting everything (the whole sentence) in bold print doesn't work. Instead, in my humble opinion you should use the bold print only for the phrase in question.
