"assalting" or "salting"

Hello! Did JImmy KImmel say "assaulting Chris Rock", or "uh... salting Chris Rock"? Only the first makes sense to me, but the pause he made was so unnatural if he really meant "assaulting".

He says "Uh ... assaulting Chris Rock". He barely (if at all) enunciates the first syllable of "assaulting", though. Common sense tells us that's what he meant.

The first makes sense, but he said the second IMO. We are not perfect in speech. He has to stand up and deliver hastily written monologues every night- we can't expect him to achieve the standards we'd meet when writing a one-off covering letter for the job we most desire.
