Hello.

Why do we say "can go" and why not "can to go", and Or "have to watch" and not "have watch?

Thank you.
Welcome to the forum.

Please note my corrections above. You must use a closing punctuation mark at the end of every sentence, even ones as short as "Hello" and "Thank you".

We always ask learners to give us complete sentences to consider. Please write at least two example sentences, one with "can go" and one with "have to watch" so that we can explain why the other options are/aren't possible in those sentences.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.

Here is an example.

Why do we say « I can go to school » and not « I can to go to school »

Or.

« I have to watch a movie » and not « I have watch a movie »

Thank you.

It simply happens that the modal verbs (can/could, may/might, must, shall/should and will/would) and a couple of other verbs are followed by a bare infinitive. Nearly all other verbs that are followed by an infinitive are followed by a to- infinitive.

understood thank you.

Try:

Why do we say "I can go to school" and not "I can to go to school"?

A typical native speaker would probably say that they don't understand the question. Also, they wouldn't be able to respond the way Piscean did, because the term "modal verb" isn't part of their vocabulary.

Time is precious. There are only 24 hours in a day.

Hello. Thank you for your answer.

Here is are an two examples:

1.
Why do we say "I can go to school" and not "I can to go to school"?
Or.
2. "I have to watch a movie" and not "I have watch a movie".
Please note my corrections above. In written English, we use quotation marks, not << >>, around quotes, sentences and words we are using as examples.

Understood. Thank you.
Remember to start every sentence with a capital letter and end every sentence with an appropriate punctuation mark. I'm certain that's the same in French.
