Hi.

Are my two sentences idiomatic? Will native speakers use them?

1) Weeds soon overrun the garden.
2) Can you engage that all his statements are trustworthy?

I think 1) is okay, 2) is either formal or weird because I'm not sure about the two words "engage" and "trustworthy".

You're right; #1 is okay, but "engage" in the second doesn't work.

I would replace engage with vouch/verify.

Look up ensure and engage.

Reliable and trustworthy mean almost the same thing, but only a person can be trustworthy. A statement can't be.
