Can you say:

We've made back the money we invested initially.

VS

We've made a return on our initial investments.

Do these two mean the same thing? Are they ok?
 
"We've made back the money we invested initially." We got back all the money we invested, but no profit. A highly unlikely scenario in my experience. Almost always, if you don't make money you lose money.

"We've made a return on our initial investment," We have received money back and our investment is still worth more than we initially put in.
